GSK Nigeria produces Most Outstanding CEO of the Year, bags first best workplace
Chidi Okoro, managing director, GSK Consumer Nigeria plc, has won the prestigious Most Outstanding CEO of the Year Award at the recently held 2013 PEARL Awards Nigeria. GSK also won the Sectoral Leadership Award in the Health Care (pharmaceutical) category at the event.
The yearly PEARL award in its 18th edition recognises individuals and quoted companies on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange who have contributed significantly to the growth of the exchange and the Nigerian business environment in general.
It would be recalled that GSK Nigeria bagged the first Best Workplace in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCGs) company’s category on the Great Place to Work Trust Index (large companies) for Nigeria for year 2013. The company was also ranked fourth Best Workplace on the overall in Nigeria on the index.
Speaking on the recognition of Chidi Okoro as the 2013 PEARL CEO of the Year, the organisers said since he was appointed as the first Nigerian managing director for GSK after 39 years in 2010, Okoro has contributed immensely to the growth of the company, contributing to its turnover of N9.9 billion in 2007, which has since propelled to an all-time high of N15 billion as of December 31, 2009.
Announcing GSK Consumer Nigeria plc as the winner of the PEARL awards in the Sectoral Leadership Award category for Healthcare (pharmaceutical), the statement said: “Since appointment, Chidi Okoro has transformed the fortunes of the company positively, elevating it to remain on the cutting edge as sector and market leader. It is in recognition of his visionary leadership and sterling qualities that have propelled GSK Consumer Nigeria plc to sustain its leadership position as one of the most creative, innovative and customer-friendly consumer goods company, not only in Africa but in the world.”
In his response, Okoro thanked the organisers for the award. “It is a great honour receiving this award and it is in recognition of the hard work and commitment of the entire GSK Nigeria team. It is certainly the result of the work they have put in. I dedicate this award to my family and the team for their unwavering support in this stride to success,” Okoro stated. He reiterated commitment to continue the drive towards the GSK mission of enabling people do more, feel better and live longer.
